Welcome to the Vancouver Jewish Film Centre Society (VJFCS) home of the Vancouver Jewish Film Festival. By participating in, attending, or submitting your film to the VJFCS, you (“ the User”) agree to comply with these Terms of Service (“Terms”). The laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada govern these Terms.
1. Eligibility
1.1. Individuals submitting films (“Entrants”) must be at least 18 years of age, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
1.2. Films submitted must comply with all applicable local, provincial, and federal laws, including but not limited to the Copyright Act of Canada and the Criminal Code.
1.3. Attendance at the Festival is open to members of the public who have shared their email address or contact info when purchasing a ticket (said ticket purchase constitutes membership in the Society. Ticket is subject to availability and venue capacity. If a film that is screening has not been rated by the B.C. Consumer Protection Agency’s Film Classification Department “ONLY ticket holders of 19 years of age or older will be admitted”. If the film has been rated, then those under 19 may attend, no contact information is required to purchase a ticket in this case.
2. Film Submissions
2.1. Entrants must submit films via the designated submission platform by the deadline specified on the Festival’s website. Late submissions may not be considered.
2.2. Submitting a film, Entrants affirm that they own or have obtained all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for the content submitted, including music, visuals, and performances.
2.3. The VJFCS reserves the right to reject any submission that:
• Violates any applicable law;
• Contains hate speech, defamation, or explicit content not suitable for public viewing; or
• Does not meet the Festival’s technical or thematic criteria.
2.4. Submission fees, if applicable, are non-refundable.
3. Selections and Screening
3.1. Selection of films for screening is at the sole discretion of the VJFCS and its judging panel.
3.2. Selected films may be screened at multiple venues or online as part of the Festival.
3.3. Entrants grant the VJFCS the right to use excerpts, stills, and promotional materials from their film for marketing and promotional purposes related to the Festival.
4. Tickets and Attendance
4.1. Tickets to the Festival are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled by the VJFCS.
4.2. Attendees must comply with all venue rules and regulations, including safety guidelines and any applicable public health directives.
4.3. The VJFCS reserves the right to refuse entry or eject any individual for disruptive behaviour, illegal activities, or non-compliance with these Terms.
5. Code of Conduct
5.1. The VJFCS aims to provide a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. Harassment, discrimination, or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.
5.2. Any incidents of misconduct should be reported to the Festival staff immediately. The VJFCS r reserves the right to take appropriate action, including removal from the event and notification of law enforcement if necessary.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1. Entrants retain ownership of their submitted films but grant the VJFCS a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to screen the film during the Festival and use associated promotional materials.
6.2. The VJFCS respects intellectual property rights and will address any claims of infringement in compliance with Canadian copyright law.
7. Limitation of Liability
7.1. The VJFCS is not liable for any loss, theft, damage, or injury occurring at the Festival venues, except where caused by the Organizer’s gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
7.2. Entrants and attendees participate in the VJFCS at their own risk.
8. Privacy
8.1. The VJFCS collects personal information solely for the purpose of managing the Festival. Personal information will be handled in compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) of British Columbia.
8.2. Participating in the Festival, Users consent to the use of their personal information for communication and promotional purposes related to the event.
9. Amendments
9.1. The VJFCS reserves the right to amend these Terms at any time. Any changes will be communicated via the Festival’s official website.
