In 1939 Warsaw, as the Nazis stormed into Poland, nurse Irena Gut faced displacement and coercion to serve the German war machine. Against the backdrop of adversity, she found herself managing the household of a Nazi commandant. However, instead of succumbing to the path of least resistance and relying solely on her status and ethnicity for safety, Gut embarked on a perilous journey to rescue a dozen Jewish refugees from the horrors of persecution and death.
As threats to democracy resurface prominently in Poland’s national narrative, it becomes imperative to shed a dramatic spotlight on this courageous tale. Irena’s Vow brings to life the true story of Irena Gut, honoured as Righteous Among the Nations by Israel for her heroic deeds.
Directed by Canadian filmmaker Louise Archambault, and featuring Canadian actress Sophie Nélisse in the role of Irena, known for her portrayal in Yellow Jackets, this film promises to be a powerful testament to one woman’s unwavering determination in the face of unimaginable evil.
