Now in its 22nd year, The Vancouver Jewish Film Festival is the longest running Jewish film festival in Canada. With an established track record, the Festival is recognized as one of the best festivals of its type in North America .
The Festival is inclusive, encourages multi-cultural interaction and presents high quality entertainment and knowledge: Comedies, feature dramas, thrillers, topical and historical documentaries appeal to a wide audience base. The society will be moving the annual festival date from March / April to October / November of each year beginning in 2009 .
The main festival will be held from October 30th 2009 to November 11th 2009 and is expected to screen over 50 local and international films from many countries around the world. Our program will be aimed at attracting audiences from many population groups including youth and teenagers, adults and seniors and multi-cultural groups where English may not be the first language. A number of our films will have repetitive screenings in 2009
FESTIVAL AUDIENCE
Anyone that enjoys a good bagel, hot popcorn and great movies will love this film festival. Attendance statistics place VJFF as the second largest Jewish film festival, (just after Toronto) in Canada. Attendance has doubled over the last five years growing to 8,000 in 2008. With our 21st anniversary and screenings taking place in November we expect our attendance to increase to close to 10,000 in 2009. Our fabulous Westside venues include Festival Cinemas comprising Fifth Avenue Cinemas, The Ridge and The Park Theatre. Additional screenings may take place at the Norman Rothstein Theatre, Oakridge and Vancity Theatres .
