Fabian Hofman's semi-autobiographical account of a Jewish family caught up in Argentina's Dirty War of the 1970s centers on teenager Javier, who watches his middle-class existence come apart as leftist brother Adrian tries to stand up against the military takeover. After Adrian becomes one of the thousands of political dissidents "disappeared" by the regime, his family sends Javier to stay with relatives in Mexico.
A memorable film with a hushed, cumulative force.
