Summary

This provocative, psychosexual tale is set at the crossroads where family, history and sexuality collide. It is an intensely visceral and explicit portrait of a family on the verge of destruction that exposes the ties that can so dangerously bind us - erotic, psychological and historical.  A Jewish American family struggles in the shadow of their Holocaust survivor mother's (played by a still radiant Jacqueline Bisset) dark past. Decades after the love affair she conducted with a Nazi doctor to survive in the camps, which left her blurring the lines between pleasure and pain, the lives of her two sons still reverberate with the damage. One (Josh Lucas) is a sharp, charming but loveless salesman working in an exploitive modelling agency while carrying on an abusive relationship with his female boss. The other (Lukas Haas) is an emotionally shut down pianist afraid to venture from the family home. But change is coming to this dysfunctional family. New relationships begin to emerge, old obsessions resurface and history plays its hand. As duplicity, moral compromise and the ghosts of the past haunt their sexual and emotional relationships, the family careens towards a shattering catharsis. This powerful and explicit film is not for the faint of heart.

Warning: This film may be difficult to watch - Theatrically rated R in the U.S. for disturbing violent and graphic sexual content, nudity and language.
