“They say there are souls which rise to heaven, but they’re not ready, they’re not complete... and so they are returned to finish...”
Galia has spent the past year of her life recovering from the trauma of a suicide bomb that took her boyfriend’s life and nearly took hers. Declared clinically dead for seven minutes, she was miraculously brought back to the realm of the living. Galia cannot seem to escape the effects of the attack; she suffers from severe burns on her back and is plagued by frequent panic attacks, flashbacks, and hallucinations of the dead.
With its carefully layered narrative, dazzling cinematography, and a truly mesmerizing performance from Reymonde Amsallem, the film effortlessly lifts the viewer into a realm where the physical and the metaphysical collide. Drawing its power from the inescapable truth that trauma such as Galia’s is not uncommon in Israel, “Seven Minutes in Heaven” transforms this harsh reality into a spiritual musing that is intensely satisfying.
