France - Israel, Je T'Aime Moi Non Plus (follows Dreyfus Revisited)

Summary

This story attempts to document the often-complex relationship between Israel and France over the past sixty years from the establishment of the State of Israel to the present.  This is a piercing look at the high and low points of bilateral relations between the two nations, including: the illegal immigration from the shores of France to pre-state Israel, the 1956 "honeymoon" phase during the Suez Campaign, the 1967 Six-Day-War, the De Gaulle regime, the embargo of French weapons shipments, the so-called "liberation" of the Cherbourg missile boats, the 1982 Lebanon War, deportation of Yasser Arafat from Beirut, premiership of Ariel Sharon and the 2005 disengagement from Gaza.

The film was produced at a critical time for both countries as they struggled to define and redesign diplomatic relations amidst the rise of fundamental Islam in France. The film incorporates rare visual materials and interviews with people who both participated in and had historical impact on the future of Israel: President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former ambassador to France Dr. Yehuda Lankry, PF Elie Barnavi, "Exodus" Commander Yossi Harel, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine, Jean Thual-advisor to President Chirac, journalist Jean Daniel, historian Pierre Nora and Michel Abitbol.
